8. Big Wool Knits

Whether its cable knits or the cheesy knitted Christmas sweater from your grandma at the back of your closet, you can't go wrong with Big Wool Knits this Winter! A very basic crème knit will do the trick if you're a little on the conservative side of fashion or want an easy classic (not that being conservative is at all suggested). However, if you look at the A/W Fashion Shows this year, the more bold, the better!

This knit to the right is a great example of a solid basic knit, nothing too outrageous but a great look from the London A/W 2013 show by designer Richard James.

It's back! 7. Suede

After almost a month without doing a Top 20 Winter Trend, solely on my laziness and stupidity; overestimating the importance of school, it is back! First things first, let me apologise for the long break, I know you've all been agonising, sitting in front of your computers, no clue of what to wear and so I will relieve the torture and introduce, without further ado, the 7th Winter Trend, SUEDE!
A slight bias to this Doc Marten
desert boot, seeing as I own a pair.

The Fall

Autumn, the often overlooked middle-child of the four seasons
Autumn is about taking inspiration from the beauty of Mother Nature and in saying that true style is about being confident and 'natural' in your surroundings.

The devil is in the detail. Fall is a testament to this adage not with minor details, rather, paying close attention to the intricate tones of natural colours and textures of the garments you don. Autumn is soothing in comparison to the brightness of Summer think of it as not a complete change in colours but beautiful transition much akin to a sunset. Glimpses of what was but still different. Bright Red's, Orange's and Yellows are quite overwhelming but on the contrary Burgundies, Forrest Greens and Browns. The trick to a Fall palette is to emulate the colours and tones in your location.

6. Greys

Brioni
One of the main colours throughout all shows early this year was definitely greys. There's just something extremely classy and sophisticated about grey and despite it often being thought of as a dull colour, it is certainly not. There are so many different shades of grey (around 50, sorry awful joke I know but I wrote shades of grey and couldn't control myself) and so many different styles it can be done with. Personally, I love the charcoal grey. ADVICE: If you're nervous about getting into wearing out-there stuff, this is such a good start, I mean it's grey for crying out loud, it's defined as no colour and therefore not being out there. In fact in general, any colour advice I give is a good start for beginners to fashion because you can still wear the style you like just in a trendy colour.

The Met Gala, PUNK: Chaos to Couture

Gerard Butler in Dolce
Okay so for those of you that don't know; "the Met Ball or Met Gala, is an annual ball that celebrates the annual opening of the Metropolitan Museum's fashion exhibit at the Costume Institute. The red carpet evening is hosted by Vogue magazine. It is regarded as an important social event in New York City. The event has been an annual affair at the Met since 1971 and became popular when Diana Vreeland became consultant to the Costume Institute in 1971 and with her 1973-1974 exhibit "The World of Balenciaga". (Thanks Wikipedia!)

And yes, I know the Met Gala was over a week ago but this blog didn't exist when the Met Gala happened so shush, better late than never. Each Met Gala is themed and this years was 'PUNK: Chaos to Couture'. While some celebs choose to fully embrace the theme (which come on, is surely more fun), a lot tend to wear what they know to be classically good looking, such as Gerard Butler. However, Gerard Butler is in fact Scottish and honestly with an accent like that, you basically do whatever you want, themes are irrelevant.
